Waste Disposal & Recycling: Industry outline

The waste disposal & recycling industry is one of the fastest growing industries worldwide. According to the Statistical Office of the European Union, the average European produces almost 500 kg of waste per year - more than 1 kg per day. In addition to private waste, commercial and industrial waste plays a major role. Industry-specific waste disposal is essential to minimize environmental pollution and comply with legal requirements. There are different categories of waste incineration, depending on the type of materials to be incinerated. From a regulatory perspective, the industry is divided into commercial, industrial, clinical, medical, infectious and other solid waste, among others. The use of exhaust air purification systems ensures compliance with the latest emission regulations.

 Waste Disposal & Recycling:

Envirotec industry solution

Envirotec offers solutions to meet the strict emission regulations for the waste disposal & recycling industry. In waste treatment, as carried out with MBT technology (mechanical-biological waste treatment), waste from households and businesses is collected, mechanically shredded, sorted into various sub-fractions and then recycled. Processing takes place in fully enclosed and ventilated halls. Some of the extracted air is reused to ventilate the composting plant. The exhaust air from the composting tunnels is fed into a thermal exhaust air treatment system (RTO) to eliminate pollutants and odors. Our systems support compliance with exhaust air purification requirements and underline the importance of recycling, safe disposal and reuse in the various branches of the industry.

Benefit from our many years of experience with industrial processes and design your tailor-made concept with us - from the initial engineering study to the implementation of your system, we offer innovative solutions.

Typical pollutants

The waste is intensively aerated in the rotting tunnels, and the air pollutants that escape are:

  • Aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons
  • Organic acids
  • Inorganic acids
  • Sulphuric acid
  • Silicon compounds
  • Odour

Typical technical challenges

The composition of the air places high demands on the downstream RTO exhaust air purification system:

  • Corrosion protection of the system
  • Prevention of clogging of the system by silicon compounds and dust
  • Guarantee of 100 % availability

Typical solutions

To meet these high process-related requirements, the following design options are available for the Envitherm RTO from Envirotec:

  • Design of the system body in high-quality corrosion-resistant stainless steel and suitable surface protection
  • Avoidance of cold system components through additional insulation measures
  • Use of special heat exchanger materials
  • Easy accessibility through additional cleaning openings
  • Redundant design for high availability
  • Process-dependent further pre- and post-treatment
